TRADITIONAL ALFOMBRA AT CONVIVIO MADRE

"Las Alfombras de Semana Santa" are a centuries-old art form & tradition in Guatemala, where the community comes together to make a tapestry on the floor ('alfombra' = carpet) with sawdust and other natural materials specifically for the observance of Holy Week and only a once-a-year feast for the eyes.

We want to honor that tradition and its cultural significance by making our second 'Alfombra' at Convivio Café.

Last year (2025), we created our first one by using espresso coffee grounds as the base, and with the help of the community, we found sawdust we could dye. We are so excited to do it again this year, with this amazing 'alfombra team'!
