About / Sobre el Evento
"Las Alfombras de Semana Santa" are a centuries-old art form & tradition in Guatemala, where the community comes together to make a tapestry on the floor ('alfombra' = carpet) with sawdust and other natural materials specifically for the observance of Holy Week and only a once-a-year feast for the eyes.
We want to honor that tradition and its cultural significance by making our first 'Alfombra' at Convivio Café.
On Saturday, starting at 10 AM, a small group of volunteers will begin making the alfombra on our patio, finishing in the afternoon. Weather permitting, we will also enjoy the 'alfombra' on Easter Sunday.
The community is welcome to come and observe the process and/or enjoy its beauty once completed.
Please bring your friends and family, grab some cafecito and delicious food, and celebrate Spring and the end of "Semana Santa" with us.
